The list of “Chinese Heart” 2013 Top Ten Engines was recently issued, and the 2.0T GW4C20 gasoline engine of GWM made the list. It is another engine of GWM that is rated as the “Chinese Heart” Top Ten Engines after three engines- 1.3L gasoline engine (GW4G13) in 2009, 2.0T diesel engine (GW4D20) in 2010 and 1.5T gasoline engine (GW4G15T) in 2011.
It is reported that a complete set of evaluation system for “Chinese Heart” Annual Top Ten Engines selection has been established. Comprehensive evaluation is conducted based on five indexes-power performance (20%), technology advancement (20%), market performance (15%), energy saving and emission reduction (20%), and site test & evaluation (25%).
In the selection process this year, a total of 23 automobile and engine enterprises had 31 excellent engines for selection, so competition was very fierce. Through 3-month registration, screening and review, finally 16 engines were shortlisted as candidates and participated in field test. Through a 3-day field test, the expert review committee gave each candidate a score based on the five evaluation indexes, and finally determined the list of “Chinese Heart” 2013 Top Ten Engines based on total score.
According to information, GW4C20 engine is a gasoline direct injection engine inside pressure cylinder that is developed independently by GWM. It has in-line four cylinders and 16 valves. The displacement is 2.0L. The maximum power is 160/5500KW, and maximum torque is 324/2000-4000N?m. Emission standard satisfies European V+ advanced level.
This engine mainly adopts such advanced technologies as in-cylinder direct injection, exhaust gas turbo charging, inlet & exhaust dual VVT, silent timing chain system, double balance shaft, sodium-filled hollow valve, and lightweight design of high-performance piston rod, to guarantee stability of automobiles, noise reduction, light weight and fuel consumption and to greatly enhance the high performance and advancement of complete machine.
During R&D process, the R&D team carried out a lot of matching, calibration and durability tests. Bench tests were conducted for over 100 engines for over 20,000 hours accumulatively, which fully verify the engine and ensure reliability and high efficiency of the engine.
Evaluation experts think GW4C20 engine is a longitudinal engine that is rarely seen in domestic cars. By using turbo charging and in-cylinder direct injection technology, it has reached the international advanced level. Its appearance looks compact and simple. Pipeline layout around engine is very reasonable. Oil filter position design is convenient for maintenance and repair. Tilting layout shows very high technical content. The designer is very thoughtful about such details as shafting arrangement, vibration noise and safety. Thermal management and lubrication system are reasonable. Throttle response is good.
Moreover, experts think that GWM makes use of little outside force during engine R&D which is really not easy; self-owned brand engines represented by it have developed very fast in terms of technology in recent two years, and GW4C20 engine is a mark that self-owned brand engines are no longer limited to moderate and small displacement like before; medium- and high-class vehicles and medium- and high-class passenger vehicles of self-owned brands have started to steadily enter the market, which is a big improvement.
