On August 25, the new Tianjin Plant of Great Wall Motors representing the top level in automobile manufacturing of China was launched into formal production. The new Tianjin Plant equipped with state-of-the-art production equipment and technological equipment in the world also shoulders the heavy responsibility of improving quality of Great Wall Motors apart from easing the pressure faced by Great Wall Motors caused by insufficient production capacity. While the new Plant was launched into production, the first model produced by the new Plant Haval H6 has also been launched into market. The synchronous launch of the new plant and new product symbolizes that Great Wall Motors is ushering in a quality-oriented new development stage.

Setting a New Example in Automobile Plant Quality

It is understood that, occupying a land of about 357 hectares (5350 mu), the new Tianjin Plant located in Binhai New Area, has four functions of 400,000 whole vehicle production, CKD/KD parts production, auto parts industrial park and export logistics & production base. At present, the first phase project, occupying a land of about 54 hectares (over 800 mu), has been completed, including stamping plant, welding plant, coating plant and assembly plant as well as living and office facilities, with whole vehicle production capacity reaching 200,000 units. The new plant will produce Haval H6 and Voleex C50 first.

The stamping plant, welding plant, coating plant and assembly plant of the new plant are all equipped with hi-end robots of the largest scale among domestic whole vehicle players, which can improve process precision to the greatest extent and reduce the errors caused by human factors. The new Tianjin Plant pursues perfection in each procedure including welding, coating and precise assembly, with precision reaching 0.01 mm. The complete automatic production not only ensures the quality of each core part to match up to high international standards, but also realizes systematic improvement of whole vehicle assembly quality, enabling the precision, durability, comfort, reliability and other aspects of products to achieve leap-forward improvement.

Besides, the new Tianjin Plant adopts “free debugging” production standard, a quality management mode that has to be implemented perfectly and a quality management program adopted by the new Tianjin Plant in lean production, with a view of ensuring each Haval H6 to roll off production line in “zero-defect” state. It can be said that, the “free debugging” and “zero-defect” standard eliminates all quality defects while products are still in production line. Moreover, the new Tianjin Plant has formed the quality management & guarantee system by adopting advanced facilities and management standard and controlling the quality of each part and integrated part, which further improves the quality of whole vehicle manufacturing.

Writing a New Chapter in Domestic Auto Industry

It is known that, the new Tianjin Plant will undertake the task of producing hi-end vehicle models. Apart from the high and mid-end SUV Haval H6 launched into market this time, the plant will launch the mass production of the first B-class sedan of Great Wall Motors Voleex C50 in September. Moreover, the plant will become the most important whole vehicle Plant of Great Wall Motors in the future, planning to have three hi-end SUV models and five sedan models roll off production line by 2012.

The production launch of the new Tianjin Plant symbolizes the general quality improvement of Great Wall Motors. The Plant has reached the level of Japanese and Korean brands in terms of appearance, processing precision, core parts quality, vehicle body quality and quality control through hi-tech equipment and high-performance design. 　

Basing on Tianjin and Eyeing Global Market

In early this year, Great Wall Motors released the “three-high” strategy for internationalization. The Chairman of Great Wall Motors Wei Jianjun indicated that, the “three-high” strategy is the most important product positioning planning of Great Wall Motors, with a view of creating high-quality products with the support of hi-tech equipment and high-performance design. It is known that, the “three-high” strategy refers to the strategy enabling future whole vehicles to match up to international quality standards in 21 main performance indicators, reach NCAP five-star standard in security and meet the requirements of North America, Europe and other hi-end markets in energy saving and emission reduction. These guidelines are reflected by specific benchmark data in each R & D module. Wei Jianjun believed that, the purpose of implementing such strategy is to increase technical content to be distinctive compared with peers, eliminate the bottleneck that restricts domestic independent brands to enter hi-end market, change the image of China-made vehicles and enter international hi-end market finally.

Currently, Great Wall Motors has had its vehicles exported to over 100 countries, established assembly plants in over 10 countries and set up offices in more than 80 countries for its marketing network. For many years, it has attached great importance to export quality, always ranking the top in terms of export volume and value. It establishes Plant in Tianjin because of the favorable geographic advantages of Tianjin. Located in the center of Bohai Rim Economic Circle and as the largest coastal open city in northern China, Tianjin not only facilitates domestic transportation, but also promotes the international business development of Great Wall Motors. After the new plant was launched into production, Great Wall Motors will have a smoother path toward internationalization by relying on the environment advantages of Tianjin.
