Recently, Great Wall Motors has signed comprehensive strategic cooperation agreements with Bosch of German and BorgWarner of the United States. According to the agreements, Great Wall Motors will seek for extensive technical cooperation as well as research and development renovation with the two companies based on previous experiences in supplying matching products. Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motors, has signed the cooperation agreements with Chen Yudong, President of Bosch Investment Ltd., and Tim Manganello, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of BorgWarner, respectively.
When signing the agreement with Bosch of German on September 26, both parties reached a consensus on an in-depth cooperative research and development of such products as engine management system and chassis brakes. Wei Jianjun said, "We have carried out extensive cooperation in supplying matching products in addition to the research and development of the core power. We will further deepen our cooperation in the future, with a focus on the realization of high efficiency and low emission of the engine during its research and development, so as to cope with the increasingly strict new standards on fuel consumption and emission of vehicles. "
Since 2005, Bosch's products have been extensively applied to the three main categories of Great Wall Motors' products and numerous innovations have been achieved through joint research and development of engines by both parties. In 2006, Great Wall Motors developed, in joint efforts with Bosch, the electronically controlled high-pressure common-rail diesel engine and became the first manufacturer using such technology in China at that time. The engine was applied to Haval series and later gained its prevalence on China's diesel-powered SUV market. In this May, Bosch's common-rail system was adopted in the diesel-powered Green Static 2.0T engine which matches Wingle 5, thus having increased its fuel-saving performance substantially.
Three days later, Great Wall Motors conducted a strategic alignment with the world's leading supplier of transmission products – BorgWarner, where detailed provisions concerning cooperation over such products as timing chain transmission system and intelligent torque management device were established. On the signing ceremony, Tim Manganello said, "The new subsidy policy for energy-saving vehicles launched by the Chinese government on the first day of this October set an even higher requirement for fuel-economy performance of vehicles. With dedicated and advanced technology in power transmission, BorgWarner enjoys a unique edge in realizing higher fuel efficiency and lower emission. We will continue to provide Great Wall Motors with highly efficient and energy-saving power transmission products, helping it to break out and distinguish itself in market competition.""
The cooperation between Great Wall Motors and BorgWarner also began in 2005. BorgWarner first provided electronically controlled four-wheel-drive transfer case for Haval SUV and Wingle Pickups. Now, the turbocharger and transfer case applied on new Haval H5 series have been put into batch production. The intelligent torque management device applied on Haval H6 series will also start batch production by the end of the year.
Speaking of the main reason for the strategic cooperation of Great Wall Motors with Bosch and BorgWarner, Wei Jianjun said, "Our three companies share a common pursuit on enterprise strategy and product quality in despite of differences in main business, which urges us to move forward rapidly and always strive to innovate. The leading position held by Bosch in terms of engine management system and the advanced technology possessed by BorgWarner in global power transmission and intelligent driving system will definitely enhance the technical level of Great Wall Motors' products. This is consistent with the "Three-high strategy" currently implemented by us, which emphasizes creating high-quality products under the support of high-tech equipment and high-performance design."
