On June 20, Mr. Wei Jianjun, President of Great Wall Motors, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Ms. Hu Kun, General Manager of Mahle Technologies Holding (China) Co., Ltd. In this cooperation, Mahle would provide Great Wall Motors with the air management system, vehicle thermal system, high-end engine piston, air charge valve and other key components as well as parts of engines, and both parties would plan the synchronous development of a Technology Center.
Great Wall Motors has already cooperated with Mahle. At present, the engines of Models “LJ 2.0T”, 2.5TCI and 2.8TC applied in Haval SUV and Wingle Pickup have adopted the valves, bearing bushes, filtration systems and other components and parts from Mahle. Both parties have established a regular communication mechanism in this cooperation, for the purpose of key project promotion and information feedback on new technologies and new products in the form of high-level visits and technology exchange symposiums, as well as a planned cooperation on the key components and parts used in Haval H6, Voleex C50, Voleex C70 and other engines.
Mr. Wei Jianjun of Great Wall Motors said at the signing ceremony the Company would increase the investment in the independent research and development during the “12th Five Year Plan”, so as to effectively increase the level of core power, and achieve a leading position among Chinese auto brands in traditional engine projects through the cooperation with the world’s leading components and parts companies.
In 2010, Mahle Group ranked 25th in the global supply of automobile components and parts. As one of the three largest suppliers in the world of piston systems, cylinder components and parts, valve train systems, and air and liquid management systems, Mahle Group has established 14 factories in China, manufacturing the key components and parts of engines including the piston, valve, bearing bush, connecting rod, intake manifold and the oil-water separator. At present, it is a supplier of GM, VW, Ford, Toyota, Nissan and other motor vehicle brands.
In order to overcome the dilemma of a self-owned brand in its forward progress, as of this year Great Wall Motors has established a “three highs strategy”: to create high-quality products, with high-technology equipment and a high-performance design as the support. It has cooperated widely with the world top components and parts companies in an all-round way. For example, it has cooperated with Ricado, BorgWarner, Delphi, Siemens and Bosch on the engine and transmission design and four-wheel drive technology, and with Dassault and YARK on the finished automobile design. The cooperation with Mahle this time is an important component of Great Wall Motors’ strategy for converging the global technology resources.
